A million people displaced as Africa is drowned by floods

The heaviest rain this century in some countries is wiping out crops and threatening ancient artefacts

Vast swathes of Africa are being submerged by once-in-a-lifetime floods, with torrential rains displacing well over a million people from Ethiopia and Sudan to Nigeria and Senegal.

In Ethiopia, more than 500,000 people have been affected after several rivers, including the Blue Nile, broke their banks.
