Johnny Depp’s former partners Winona Ryder and Vanessa Paradis have defended him against allegations of domestic violence, according to court documents.

The Hollywood star is suing the publishers of The Sun over a 2018 article which focused on strenuously denied accusations of abuse made against the actor by his former wife, Amber Heard. In the article, by the paper’s executive editor, Dan Wootton, the Pirates of the Caribbean star was referred to as a “wife beater”.

At a direction hearing held over Skype on Wednesday ahead of a full high court trial in July, Depp’s legal team made a bid to include evidence from two of his former partners. It included a statement from actress Winona Ryder, who was in a relationship with the actor during the 1990s. In her statement, Ryder said: “I cannot wrap my head around [Heard’s] accusations. He was never, never violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me.”..
