Companies prepare to make offices safe, but will the effort be worth it?
Employees are unlikely to head back to work in droves, despite new measures to ensure their safety
Businesses across the world are attempting to make their offices “Covid-safe”, introducing new rules for how staff move around offices, where they sit and what time they work. But there are questions about whether everyone will need to return. In the long term, could a prolonged period of working from home mean the death of the office as we know it?
“I think many companies will be reflecting and thinking: ‘Actually, do we need so much space?’,” said British Council for Offices (BCO) CEO Richard Kauntze. For many, the answer will likely be no.
