A submarine crashed into the Titanic and the US kept it a secret: claim

The adventure firm responsible plays down the incident ahead of a bitter court fight over the wreck’s future

The wreck of RMS Titanic was struck by an adventure firm’s submarine in 2019 but the crash was kept secret by the US government, a court has heard.

Officials never revealed that an underwater vehicle hired by a British company had hit the sunken liner, according to legal papers seen by this publication. On Tuesday night the expedition leader admitted that a state-of-the-art Triton submersible ran into the wreck in July when “intense and highly unpredictable currents” caused the pilot to lose control.

It is the first such incident to be made public since the wreck was discovered in 1985...
