A battle well-Ford: ‘air taxis’ are here, but will they fly?

Sitting in the snarls of traffic that clog up our cities and highways every single day, it is easy for the mind to drift to the skies. Daydreaming of the wheels folding in, your battered runabout gently lifting above the queue of cars that stretches out ahead and whooshing over the M25 to get home in time for tea.

We have been coveting the idea of flying cars since the early 20th century, through sci-fi fiction and comic books.

In 1940, Henry Ford himself said: “Mark my word: a combination aeroplane and motor car is coming. You may smile, but it will come.”..
