He won acclaim when he became the first person to zoom across the English Channel on a hoverboard last month, but Franky Zapata could now be brought down to earth with a bump.

The Frenchman is facing legal action after his neighbours in the Riviera village of Sausset-les-Pins complained of noise and toxic jet fumes from his self-designed Flyboard.

They say that it emits a deafening roar, which peaks at 120 decibels, the same level as a loud rock concert or a military jet taking off. Doctors say repeated or prolonged exposure to noise levels that are higher than 85dB can be harmful...
