Braai lovers and burping cows raise the steaks for Earth’s survival

Beef and lamb fans need to cut back to cut greenhouse gas emissions and save forests, researchers warn

Meat sizzling on the braai might be synonymous with summer, but people should rethink their menus to save the planet, a US-based research group said on Wednesday.

If the biggest beef and lamb consumers reduced their weekly intake to one and a half burgers by 2050, it could cut greenhouse gas emissions and save forests from becoming farmland, the World Resources Institute (WRI) said.
