It’s not just in SA: France pays staff 25 years’ full pay for doing nothing

Thirty 'phantom' bureaucrats come back to haunt the government as the French chafe under austerity

The revelation that 30 civil servants in the south of France have been paid for doing nothing for more than 25 years has caused outrage across the country.

French taxpayers have been spending more than €1m a year on the “phantom” bureaucrats’ salaries, an official report by the Provence-Alps-Riviera regional audit office disclosed.
