Blast from the past: One of SA’s classic ring wars goes to Carnival City

1996 — Gary Murray loses his marginal WBU welterweight title on a controversial disqualification to Italian Alessandro Duran in San Remo.

2001 — The Proteas beat India by six wickets in Durban in the final of the triangular ODI tournament also featuring Kenya. Asked to bat first, India were bowled out for 183, with Rahul Dravid top-scoring with 77. Justin Kemp took three wickets for SA, and Shaun Pollock and Nantie Hayward two each. Opener Gary Kirsten spearheaded the chase, striking 87 as SA reached the target with 47 balls to spare.
