Blast from the past: Morake clinches title, counting out Mitchell

1982 — Future world champion Brian Mitchell suffers the only defeat of his career when he loses on points, over 10 rounds, to Transvaal junior-lightweight champion Jacob “Dancing Shoes” Morake at the KwaThema civic centre in Springs. The duo fought three more times, their rivalry ending in tragedy when Morake died after getting stopped in the 12th round of their 1985 bout. Mitchell went on to win the WBA and IBF junior-lightweight crowns.

2006 — The Proteas, 1-0 up in the series, play to a draw in the second Test against New Zealand at Newlands. The Kiwis scored 593/8 declared in their first innings, bolstered by a 262 by skipper Stephen Fleming. SA replied with 512 all out, with Hashim Amla and Ashwell Prince scoring centuries...
