Today in SA sports history: February 14

1983 — Highlands Park, in their last hurrah before exiting mainstream SA soccer, are beaten 2-0 by Orlando Pirates in the second leg of the BP Cup at Orlando Stadium. Highlands Park were bought by Jomo Sono and renamed Jomo Cosmos.

1999 — Jacques Kallis scores a century against New Zealand in Dunedin, but the Proteas still lose the first ODI of their six-match series. SA were bowled out for 211 and the Kiwis, led by Nathan Astle (95 from 118 balls), got home by three wickets with five balls to spare. SA would go on to win a weather-damaged series 3-2. The fourth ODI was replayed and the final match was abandoned after two failed attempts...
