Irate African fans told to cool it after Messi beats Mane

Only 12 of the 46 African voters put Mane first. Messi and Van Dijk both got more first spots on the continent

While fans in Africa reacted with indignation after Sadio Mane finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or voting, another striker who played for Senegal and Liverpool, took a slightly more balanced view.

Mane, who won the Champions League, finished behind Argentine winner Lionel Messi of Barcelona, Dutch teammate Virgil van Dijk and Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.
