1973 — Pierre Fourie is outpointed over 15 rounds by world light-heavyweight champion Bob Foster in Albuquerque, Texas. Foster, one of the greats of the division, had been taken the distance only once before by a challenger.
2004 — Donovan Cech and Ramon Di Clemente become the first South Africans to win a rowing medal at an Olympics as they take bronze at the Athens Games. Finalists four years earlier, Cech and Di Clemente won world championship medals in 2001, 2002 and 2003 before making the Olympic podium. They rowed together until a few months short of the 2008 Olympics, with Cech being dropped for Shaun Keeling, a future Olympic medallist...
