A national team of the Springboks’ calibre can’t just go off the radar in a crucial year and a crucial time

When Springbok coach Johan “Rassie” Erasmus addresses the media on Wednesday, it’ll be breaking more than a week’s radio silence since the Springboks gathered in bits and pieces for their realignment camp ahead of the Rugby Championship.

It’s fair to say they didn’t budget for a lack of semifinal action, which has probably benefited Erasmus since that would have meant a week less with the team.

However, this is a World Cup year and judging by how badly the various SA teams have done in their international engagements in the past two months, a lot rests on the Springboks’ shoulders when they head to Japan for their World Cup engagement...
