There’s something special about watching a Comrades Marathon record fall, especially in the women’s race where they often just seem to be happy to win.

It’s like Gerda Steyn has rewritten the Comrades Marathon manual and that’s going to make the race even better in years to come. It’s not just about competing, but about knowing that winning comfortably can also be achieved in the same wavelength.

It was good to watch the one of the best men’s races in recent times from the nice vantage point of the media truck, but I missed out on a gem of run from Steyn, a run that broke a 13-year-old record...
