Mzanzi needs some love, just don’t look to SA sport for it

Between the Proteas, Bafana, Banyana and the Blitzboks, there isn't an awful lot to lift our spirits

SA is a tough country at the best of times. High unemployment and crime, electricity and water shortages, high inflation, molasses-like economic growth all bite every day. And now we can add a national sporting crisis to the growing list.

Despite all our issues, we have always been able to turn to sportspeople to lift the mood of the country, even briefly, with one memorable display, or one elegant flourish of a bat or boot.

But the last week has done nothing but heap misery on the nation as we enter the depths of winter. It really does feel that the universe is against us at the moment...
