Blasts from the past: Chrissie wows crowds at Ellis Park

1983 — America’s world No2 Chris Evert Lloyd wins a women’s exhibition tennis tournament at the Ellis Park rugby stadium in Johannesburg, beating compatriot Andrea Jaeger 6-3 6-3 to take the R25,000 first prize. The tournament also featured Billie Jean King and Sylvia Hanika, but the final day attracted fewer than 16,000 fans.
2011 — Siyabonga Sangweni scores from a Bernard Parker corner as Bafana beat Tanzania 1-0 in Dar es Salaam. Sangweni was one of four players from Lamontville Golden Arrows, a first for the club. This was Pitso Mosimane’s seventh match in charge of Bafana and their fifth win under him.
