Fight against NCDs will cost a small fortune but will be worth it: experts
Non-communicable diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide, but this need not be the case
Of about 6-million Covid-19 deaths across the world, more than two thirds have been among people living with non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Over 85% were premature deaths between the ages of 30 and 70 years.
While most countries have made little progress in reducing premature deaths from NCDs such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and mental health disorders, new evidence suggests it is not too late to shrink these avoidable deaths in the next decade.
According to a health policy brief published in the Lancet, many countries stand a chance of meeting sustainable development goal target 3.4 of reducing premature NCD deaths by a third in 2030. ..
