New SA app creates safe spaces by catcalling GBV offenders

You can now access a live map to gauge the safety of an area

Two gender-based violence survivors have created an early warning system to detect unsafe hotspots in SA.

Much like how one would consult a traffic app before leaving home, Safe Space – an NPO founded by Nakita Naee'lah Dellwaria and Chloe Homer – can be accessed to gauge the safety of areas from a live map on their website.

Users can report the general safety of the area, GBV incidents and even instances where harassment is prevalent, including catcalling or groping...
