‘Why would they do this?’: mom of slain Eldorado Park teen
Winston Hendricks’s mother describes events leading up to the horrifying sight of her son in the morgue
A heavily pregnant Tashleena Vanacore sits on a plastic chair at the window of her top-floor, two-bedroom flat in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg, quietly crying. Her home overlooks an open field, the local high school and a substation – and is less than a 1km from where her eldest son’s body was found.
She gently wipes her tears with a white tissue.
“It was like he was so close to home,” Vanacore says. Last Tuesday, her 16-year-old boy, Winston Cayllen Hendricks, was found murdered, a week after police officers allegedly shot dead 16-year-old Nateniël Julies, a Down syndrome boy, also in Eldorado Park. His alleged killers made a brief appearance in court again on Thursday. ..
