Lockdown-weary locals boost tourism, but SA ‘needs those euros’

Travel operators welcome the revival but say international visitors remain crucial

Prospects for SA’s local tourism sector are shining more brightly than they have for months – but without international visitors the business is facing a long road to recovery.

The combination of of SA’s approaching spring and an easing of interprovincial travel restrictions saw lockdown-weary travellers flock to game reserves and lodges and head off on breaks to the Drakensberg and similar places where people could maintain physical distancing.
