An unholy feud between two missionaries, brothers Friedel and Erlo Stegen, about R136m “missing” from church coffers has drawn in the Hawks as allegations of fraud and money-laundering swirl.

Erlo Stegen, a travelling evangelist from Germany, founded the KwaSizaBantu (KSB) mission in 1970.

What began as a humble Christian mission has morphed into a multi-million-rand business, with hi-tech greenhouses, producing vegetables sold at Woolworths, flanking Aquelle’s bottled-water factory on the 550ha church compound...
