Put that in your pipe(line) and smoke it: R2bn water tender starts afresh

High court has ordered Umgeni Water to restart the tender process for a 444km pipeline refurbishment project

A massive project that would help ensure fresh drinking water for large parts of Durban has been halted after the Pietermaritzburg high court rejected the awarding of the R2bn tender.

The contract, to refurbish 444km of pipeline between the Nagel (Durban Heights) and Wiggins (Inanda) raw water conveyance system and treatment plant, will now have to start afresh after Umgeni Water’s decision to award the contract to Klomac was set aside.

Losing bidders had challenged the award in court in November 2019 when the water entity awarded the tender...
