Clock ticks for Experian to provide proof of data-leak criminal case

Regulator waves big stick at credit bureau to get its act together over data leak affecting 24m South Africans

SA’s Information Regulator has instructed credit bureau agency Experian to open a criminal case within two weeks, after 24 million people’s personal details were leaked during a hack.

Experian discovered the leak, which included telephone numbers and in some cases employment information, banking details and addresses, in July, but only reported it on August 6.
