Gauteng contract nurses turn to loan sharks after not being paid
R500m has been budgeted for contract workers, but nurses say they wait up to two months for their salaries
Some nurses who were contracted by the Gauteng health department to help during Covid-19 are surviving on loan-shark money because they have not been paid their monthly salaries.
The nurses at Jubilee, Sebokeng, Mamelodi and Dr George Mukhari Academic hospitals, who want to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation, have gone more than a month without compensation.
