Captured Moz port risks becoming IS capital

Islamic State-backed insurgents will prove difficult to dislodge if they are resupplied by sea, says analyst

The northern Mozambique port overrun by jihadist rebels last week runs the risk of becoming the capital of a new Islamic State-run caliphate if government troops fail to recapture it.

On Tuesday last week Ansar Al-Sunnah fighters drove government troops out of the port city of Mocimboa da Praia in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province.
