It began in the cold throes of a northern hemisphere winter last December and took time to creep down to our part of the world, where it has peaked ... in winter.

Scientists have  speculated that Sars-Cov-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, loves the cold weather and that summer was our strongest weapon in those early days of the pandemic.

But a group of SA scientists say studies linking the spread of the virus to winter are flawed and have ignored some basic facts, such as socioeconomic conditions and the timing of the virus’s arrival...
