Hlophe attacks Mogoeng’s ‘lack of integrity’ in spat with deputy

Cape judge president accuses chief justice of breaching ‘judicial ethics’ after he recommended impeachment probe

Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe has accused Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng of lacking integrity in how he reached his decision that Hlophe should face an impeachment investigation.

This is the latest salvo in a nasty fight between Hlophe and his deputy, Patricia Goliath, that has pulled in more than 10 judges, the Western Cape Bar Council and now the chief justice.

Goliath has accused Hlophe of assaulting a junior colleague in his chambers and undermining her role as his deputy. He in turn has accused her making false accusations against him – and of racism...
