A plan by the department of basic education to dish out food vouchers to pupils who are forced to stay at home during lengthy school closures could be on the cards.

This is because food, which is stored at schools for the feeding scheme, is being stolen at an alarming rate.

Basic education minister Angie Motshekga mentioned the suggestion in court documents filed in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria last week after her department was ordered to submit plans detailing the full rollout of the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP)...
