What began as a slow start for KwaZulu-Natal is likely to become a grim finish, as the province is expected to experience a major surge in Covid-19 cases – which would ultimately see it as the province with the second-most infections after Gauteng.

KZN has the third highest number of infections (87,798) behind Western Cape (98,031) and Gauteng (185,282). However, this is most likely to change by next week as KZN is expected to overtake the Western Cape and claim second spot.

According to health minister Zweli Mkhize, Covid-19 infections in KZN are increasing faster than any other province in SA, fuelling fears that it has yet to let loose and reach its peak. ..
