If you’re lucky enough to get through the heavily guarded, glass-faced fortress of Amalgamated Tobacco Manufacturing (ATM) Africa in Mkondeni, just outside Pietermaritzburg, you will be met with a burly reception party and be questioned to the point that you will doubt yourself.
And just when you think you’re about to be thrown into some back room, you’re led upstairs to begin your way down a passage illuminated by colour-changing lights. Then things really start to get interesting.
