The operator spent millions fixing the Eastern Cape line, only to close it again. Now it’s ‘under construction’
Eastern Cape farmer James Kingwill would like nothing more than to see trains growling past his farm at Koloniesplaas, at the foot of the Sneeuberg, near Graaff-Reinet.
The 256km branch line, which once linked the Karoo town with Port Elizabeth and the rest of the country, runs through his lucerne farm, before climbing over the mountains to the north.
