Treasury blocks bid to build E Cape hospital with housing cash
Buffalo City told it can’t simply shuffle funds around, but insists provincial health is too squeezed to help
The Treasury says it has declined a request from Buffalo City and the Eastern Cape government to use R50m of its housing budget to build a 1,000-bed field hospital in the Covid-hit province.
Now it is not clear where the money will be found.
The plan was to set up the hospital in unused warehouse space belonging to tech company Yekani Manufacturing, which is battling to survive a business rescue process.
