Safety first! Cyril explains ‘tightrope’ school decision

He says finding a balance between learning and safety was hard – as he also vows to crack down on corruption

It was like walking a tightrope, President Cyril Ramaphosa said, as he shut the country’s schools for up to four weeks.

Matrics will be off from Monday, July 27, until August 3 – getting just a week’s break – while Grade 7s will be off an extra week, until August 10. All other grades at all public schools will be off a further two weeks beyond that, only returning to class on August 24.

This also means that the school year will no longer finish by the end of 2020...
