Man dies in hospital after ‘desperate plea to minister ignored’

Family want clarity on the death of Shonisani Lethole, who tagged Zweli Mkhize in a tweet from his bed

A desperate tweet tagging the health minister about his terrible fate at Tembisa Hospital was not enough to save Shonisani Lethole. Now his family hopes an investigation by the Gauteng health department will provide the answers that will make the pain of his death bearable.

The 34-year-old Kempton Park music promoter died at Tembisa hospital a few days after sending out a tweet on June 25 tagging Zweli Mkhize, saying he had not had any food in two days. According to his death certificate, which  Times Select has seen, he died on June 29. His family claim they were only informed of his death on June 30.

He was admitted on June 22 when he started having difficulty breathing...
