When 34-year-old Aschalew Chaka woke up on Tuesday morning, little did he know he would stare death in the face hours later and walk away with a graze on his leg.
The Somalian-born shopkeeper miraculously cheated death when an overhanging concrete ledge at Noor Chambers collapsed in central Durban on Tuesday, trapping him and four others in the shop at which he works.
He told Times Select he had been going about his business when he heard a loud bang and darkness descended on the shop at the corner of Dr Yusuf Dadoo and Dr Goonam streets. ..
