With no community testing, could Life Esidimeni face even more deaths?

Fears Covid-19, which has killed nine people and infected 42 at an Eastern Cape facility, could spread further

Despite a Covid-19 outbreak at the Life Esidimeni frail care and psychiatric facility in Kirkwood, in the Eastern Cape, no screening or testing has been done in the community where most of the caregivers live.

The outbreak left nine patients dead, and 29 patients and 13 staff members infected. Most of the care assistants commute from the nearby Moses Mabhida township.

Nehawu shop steward Mbuyiselo Bayeni is among those infected. His results came back on Wednesday. Until then, he had used a taxi to get to the facility each day from Moses Mabhida...
