World’s top ‘virus slayer’ says SA can learn from Ebola and HIV crises

Ebola is different to Covid-19, but the key is early intervention because both are multi-organ diseases, he says

Prof Peter Piot has seen it all. He helped discover Ebola in the 1970s, has been a key figure in the fight against HIV and is now special adviser on Covid-19 to the European Commission.

Piot, who almost died from Covid-19, shared some pearls of wisdom with SA in a recent webinar. He said there is much for the country to learn from past viruses as we battle this worldwide pandemic.
