It takes a community to feed the bellies and minds of SA’s children

KZN NGOs and feeding schemes are preparing to feed nearly nine million children when schools reopen on Monday

School vegetable gardens are being cleared and feeding schemes which ground to a halt during lockdown are being revived to cater for starving children.

Education advocacy group Equal Education said measures are in place to ensure about nine million beneficiaries of the school nutrition programme receive much-needed sustenance when schools reopen.

“According to the DBE (department of basic education), provincial education departments will be responsible for developing the appropriate mechanisms for collection or delivery of meals and food parcels to learners.
