Need for PPE could rise by 460% in a single month

Although the country has not run out, fears of this happening are rising among health workers


Having enough personal protection equipment for health workers is as vital as intensive care beds as we move towards the Covid-19 peak described by epidemiological modellers.

In just a single month, the demand for the components of PPE will go up by about 460%, according to calculations by Deloitte in SA.

In June, according to the model, we will need about 3.5 million N-95 masks in hospitals, but in July this will have shot up to 16.4 million. The number of surgical masks needed in June will be about 16.7 million, but in July will be 78.7 million...
