Are you feeling uneasy about the easing of lockdown? You’re not alone

South Africans craved ‘normality’ during lockdown, but whether we can handle it is another matter

South Africans have mixed feelings about the easing of the lockdown, with most anxious about the new normal.

Durban-based counselling psychologist Rakhi Beekrum said as much as people craved “normality”, they were also anxious about what’s to come.

“Many are eager for the lockdown to be eased, especially for economic reasons. There is anxiety about what the ‘new normal’ is going to be, what will happen with children and education and their finances. The unknown naturally gives rise to anxiety.”..
