Family at war after hacker steals R935,000 from trust fund

Una van Rensburg lost her share and when her siblings were unsympathetic she took them to court

When Una van Rensburg’s mother died, she and her three siblings each inherited R935,000 left in an obsolete trust.

But after an e-mail hacker stole the 70-year-old’s quarter share of R3.75m, she dragged her younger siblings and fellow trustees – Richardt van Rensburg, Cecile Oberholzer and Tertia Britz – to court.

“[Van Rensburg] sought to resolve the issue with her siblings and they indicated that they considered the fact that she did not receive the payment to be her problem, and not fraud perpetrated against the trust,” Grahamstown High Court acting judge Mickey Mfenyana said in his ruling on Tuesday...
