‘I live in fear after a lion nearly killed me’: KZN man relives mauling

A lion was shot and killed, but residents fear it was not the one responsible for this attack

A KwaZulu-Natal livestock herder says his life has not been – and never will be – the same after he was attacked by a lion while tending to his cattle in the northern parts of the province.

Swelihle Biyela, 28, was attacked on November 3 while on his way to fetch his cows in KwaYanguye (Sanguye), a mere 30km away from Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP). The approximate location of the attack is marked in the map below.

Biyela spoke to Times Select after game rangers shot and killed a juvenile male lion in the area on Sunday night...
