Bless you! Faith event’s novel approach dodges coronavirus

Conferences across the world are being cancelled or rescheduled because of Covid-19, but the organisers of at least one such international gathering have decided to go ahead this week – thanks to the novel format of their meeting.

By holding the March 16-18 conference at six separate locations across the globe, organisers hope to kill two birds with one stone. Firstly, participants will be able to reduce their exposure to the virus. Secondly, they will reduce greenhouse gas emissions because there will be no intercontinental air flights.

Organised by the United Nations’ Faith for Earth initiative, the conference will be held simultaneously in South Africa, Sweden, Kenya, Bosnia, Indonesia and Jordan, with participants hooked up via digital technology...
