Mom ropes in protector after son booted from Wits
Med school’s controversial standard-setting process for tests and exams prejudices school leavers, she charges
A mother who has been embroiled in a protracted battle with Wits University over her son’s expulsion from its medical school has taken her fight to the public protector’s office.
On January 14, a high-powered delegation from Wits, including the vice-chancellor, Prof Adam Habib, the dean of health sciences, Prof Martin Veller, and the dean of humanities, Prof Garth Stevens, attended an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) meeting at public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s office in Pretoria.
