Judge lashes KZN social development for dithering over adoptions
Court furious at growing number of children living in institutions instead of joining families
Embattled former KZN social development head Nokuthula Khanyile has come in for a judicial tongue-lashing for her failure to deal properly and efficiently with adoptions in the province.
Khanyile was removed from her post by premier Sihle Zikalala late last year pending an investigation by the Hawks into allegations of maladministration and the funding of NGOs in her office. She remains employed by the provincial government.
But she also remains the first respondent in a now successful court challenge brought by the National Adoption Coalition of SA (Nacsa) in which social workers accused both her and an “adoption panel” of meddling and using delaying tactics in the adoption process...
