Cop raid gets bloody: 3 taxi drivers killed, 7 hurt

Mpumalanga police officers are at the centre of a murder and attempted murder investigation after three eMbalenhle (Secunda) taxi drivers were shot dead and another seven injured in a violent protest in the mining town.

The town has been on edge for three weeks after a route dispute between Vukanini Taxi Association (VTA) and Megabus, which last month interdicted the association when it blockaded the company’s depots and stopped their operations.

Megabus has had a 10-year commuter contract with the department of transport to operate in the area, and has contracts with Sasol to transport its workers to and from their facilities...
