No one wins as desperate moms abandon babies

A Durban-based child sanctuary says there have been at least 10 reported incidents of abandoned babies in 2020


There is growing concern over the number of newborn babies being abandoned in eThekwini, despite there being three Baby Saver boxes in the city.

A Baby Saver is a metal container built into a wall of a safe house, allowing mothers to leave their babies in the container as an alternative to dumping the infant in a bin or a river.

Once the baby is placed inside the container, responders are alerted, and the child is taken to a place of safety...
