There’s an old saying that if you want something fixed properly, get army engineers to do it.

So it proved – in the early days at least – for the SANDF deployment to Ekurhuleni to help the municipality fix broken water and sewage infrastructure.

Some 200 troops and specialists from the SANDF’s Engineer Formation were deployed to Sebokeng in 2018 to repair a damaged wastewater plant that was spewing raw sewage into the Vaal River and poisoning people’s drinking water...
