You’re a flight risk and must stay in jail, court tells fraud suspect

After months of trying to find someone to offer him a place to stay if granted bail, suspected serial fraudster Andrew Lingwood has been told he poses too much of a flight risk to be granted his freedom pending trial.

Lingwood and his wife, Colleen, were arrested last year November after dozens of criminal cases were opened against them following an alleged fraudulent timeshare scheme that netted them at least R950,000 from their various victims.

At the time of their arrests, the Sunday Times reported how the young couple is alleged to have been involved in a series of business ventures, including fake timeshare bookings, property rental schemes and, in one of the most egregious incidents, soliciting donations by claiming Colleen was terminally ill...
